MARANTZ REFERENCE SERIES SA-11S3 REVIEW

One thing I did find extremely useful is the selectable optical input. What the literature describes is pretty much what I found: It also seems to have every kind of input and output jack you are likely to need, including USB-A and -B. With PCM content Filter 1 has a symmetrical impulse response with extremely short pre- and post-echo characteristics and an absolutely linear phase response for a sound that is the most faithful to the original digital audio source, while the Filter 2 option provides a more analog-like signal that strikes the best balance of fine detail coupled with rich harmonics. Like many integrated disc players these days, the SAS3 allows for independent operation of its DAC section and transport. Suffice it to say, this is a brave new world I will be exploring in the future. But whose idea was it to center the treble at 20kHz?

The control half of the unit has some novel features, including a configuration whereby two or more units can be tethered for multichannel operation. Looks, design, and build are of highest quality. I reached the point where I could tell with fair reliability which was engaged without looking, but it took some time and great concentration. Suffice it to say, this is a brave new world I will be exploring in the future. But whose idea was it to center the treble at 20kHz? Both balanced XLR and unbalanced outputs are provided, and the unbalanced RCA jacks feature high purity solid copper cores that are gold-plated for optimum signal transfer. The amp and preamp sections can be operated independently, though not both at the same time. About the same as at the beginning:

The idiosyncratic way the balance and tone controls have been implemented in the PMS3 and the lack of a mono switch still annoy me.

Marantz Reference Series SA-11S3 – SACD player

This was my first experience of high-resolution downloads and they put my jaw into my lap: The same remote handset operates both the amplifier and the disc player, and it is not an accessory, as certain functions on both components are inaccessible without it. Never have I heard it reproduced with referenec purity, presence, or throat-catching beauty.

Products Where to Buy. But connecting the optical out from my display to the Marantz yielded blessedly hum-free sound.

Revjew CD version, good in and of itself, simply pales by comparison—and I do mean pales, as in deficient in color, timbre, tonality, and sheer force. Like many integrated disc players these days, the SAS3 allows for independent operation of its DAC section and transport. Suffice it to say, this is a brave new world I will be exploring in the future.

Otherwise, I used the SAS3 strictly as a disc-spinner. My regular readers will know I applaud the inclusion of a balance control and also tone controls, which Marantz has gone so far as to make accessible even—indeed, only—from the handset.

About the same as at the beginning: But whose idea was it to center the treble at 20kHz? In the meantime, the PMS3 fully rose to the occasion of these stellar downloads, as I have no doubt it will with any sources sent its way. With PCM content Filter 1 has a symmetrical impulse response with extremely short pre- and post-echo characteristics and an absolutely linear phase response for a revieew that is the reviee faithful to the original digital audio source, while the Filter 2 option provides a more analog-like signal that strikes the best balance of fine detail coupled with rich harmonics.

My description hardly does it justice, but it confers an elegance that more or less symbolizes what these units are sonically: On either side of the display area, hidden behind the center escutcheons, Marantz has put a blue light that shines behind a narrow translucent cover from top to bottom.

Marantz SAS3 SACD Player & DAC Review –

One thing I did find extremely useful is the selectable optical input. For maximum shielding from RF interference, the chassis is copper-plated throughout. It also seems to have every kind of input and output jack you feference likely to need, including Serise and -B. The amp and preamp sections can be operated independently, though not both at the same time. The sacrifices a small amount of detail and absolute resolution reviee a presentation of great naturalness and musicality.

The newly designed remote control features hairline metallic finish and provides a full suite of commands compatible with the matching PMS3 Reference Series integrated amplifier for easy mraantz remote system control. All three digital filtering functions are controlled by erview buttons on the remote, with last memory function that retains the settings during disc changes and even when the player is powered down.

I subscribe to DirectTV, which still has not worked out its grounding issues to eliminate 60Hz hum when its DVR is connected to a sound system. What the literature describes is pretty much what I found: Rugged, Durable Construction Weighing in at a substantial 37 pounds, the SAS3 features a rugged chassis that includes a newly refedence 5mm thick aluminum top cover that allows stacking, even with heavy components, and the gorgeous front panel includes a full alpha-numeric display with ultra low noise LCD technology, which provides detailed operational information along with SACD text.

Multiple Ports for Versatile Connectivity Digital versatility is the hallmark of the SAS3, as the player does double duty as a reference quality DAC and is equipped with numerous digital interfaces to accept a wide variety of formats.

I reached the point where I could tell with fair reliability which was engaged without looking, but it took some time and great concentration. Filter 1 more accurate and neutral, Filter 2 softer, less resolved, but easier to listen to, especially with older recordings that are bright or plagued with early digitalis.

But if I did make such a plunge, this Sz-11s3 would head the list, and by some distance, owing to its lineage, its perfect mediation of musicality and neutrality on Red Book sources, and its absolutely magnificent SACD performance. About all 20kHz is good for is taming the resonance of inadequately loaded mc pickups.

Looks, design, and build are of highest quality. In addition, there are coaxial and optical digital input ports for connection to other digital audio seriess.
